Micro-Needling

Fast facts

About:

Microneedling is a procedure that uses small needles to prick the skin. The purpose of treatment is to generate new collagen and skin tissue for smoother, firmer, more toned skin. Micro-needling is mostly used on the face and may treat fine lines, pigmentation, various scars, wrinkles, and large pores.

Safety:

Microneedling is minimally invasive, requiring little downtime. It’s considered safe for most people who are in overall good health. The procedure isn’t safe for people who use certain acne medications or for women who are pregnant. You’ll experience minor redness and irritation for a few days after the procedure, sometimes some peeling depending on the serum used.

Convenience:

Total prep and procedure time is about one hour. You may need at least three procedures or more for the best results. You may be an ideal candidate for this procedure if you’re in good health and have certain skin concerns that haven’t responded to home treatments or other types of dermatologic procedures.

Since microneedling is considered a cosmetic or aesthetic procedure, it’s not covered by medical aid.

You’ll want to consider all the cumulative costs including aftercare and follow up treatments before committing to the procedure so you won’t have any surprise bills.

Lactic Peel

Fast facts

About:

A chemical peel works by using a chemical — in this case, lactic acid — on bare skin. It removes the top layer of the skin (epidermis). Despite the name, your skin doesn’t noticeably “peel” off. What is noticeable, though, are the effects underneath the removed epidermis: smoother and brighter skin.

Safety:

Despite the milder nature of lactic acid, it’s still considered a powerful AHA. Lactic acid peels can also cause irritation, rash, and itchiness. These effects are usually mildand improve as your skin gets used to the product. If your side effects persist after the first few applications, discontinue the treatment.

Convenience:

Total prep and procedure time is about 45 min max. You may need at least three procedures or more for the best results. you may be an ideal candidate if you don't suffer from eczema, rosacea, psiriasis or other forms of dermatitis.

You should wear sunscreen every day when using lactic acid. For best results, you should apply sunscreen and reapply as needed throughout the day.

Before getting a professional lactic acid peel, talk to your therapist about all the medications you take as well as your previous and current skin care regimen, and your level of sensitivity. These can all factor into the strength of the peel recommended. This will help prevent side effects and complications.
